Living the Equestrian Lifestyle
The village of Wellington has an Equestrian Preservation Area creating a country ambiance with miles of riding trails, dirt roads and horse farms. Wellington offers something for every horse lover, whether it’s international competition or recreational riding.
Wellington is known as the Equestrian Capital of the United States, drawing Olympic equestrian athletes from around the world to compete in hunter, jumper and dressage events. The 120-acre Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club hosts the National Horse Show and the Winter Equestrian Festival, which is now the largest international horse show in the world.
Palm Beach Polo’s Stadium provides box seating for 3,000 spectators and hosts many high-goal games including the 40-goal Generosity Polo Cup in March, on its 11 polo fields and world-class facilities. Polo matches are played between December and April drawing celebrities from around the world who come to play the sport or watch the matches.
A proposed 500 acre equestrian development is in the works to create The International Equestrian Center at Wellington. The center would include homes, condos and dormitory-style groom’s quarters, permanent stables for 2,000 horses, a riding school and exhibition area. A “country version” of city place would bring restaurants, retail stores, walk-in medical clinic and even a hotel and spa.
Local, year around horse lovers can enjoy the new equestrian center at Okeeheelee Park, just minutes east of Wellington. The 111-acre equestrian center will have its grand opening on June 10, 2006. They will offer quality and competitive, yet affordable venues of western and English riding horse shows along with demonstrations and educational events. Some of the amenities include 128 permanent stalls, a covered lighted arena, two lighted outdoor arenas, jump courses, dressage arenas, covered wash racks, longe pens, riding trails throughout, concessions and picnic area.
